VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE (VITA)
Program - sponsored by Project
Garrison - may be just what you're looking for.
This initiative is in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
and Community Capacity Development Office (CCDO). Together, we promote
involvement of volunteers in helping community members who cannot afford
“paid professional” tax assistance.
VITA programs offer “
free”
help to those with low-to-moderate income. As a volunteer, you will be
trained to become a Volunteer Screener, Tax Assistor, and/or Quality
Reviewer who knows how to explain the many special credits and deductions;
and how people may claim them on their tax returns.
People just like you - homemakers, college students,
business and education professionals or retirees - people from all works of
life. You name it! - Men and women who are at least 18 years and older.
VITA volunteers will receive “free”
instructional training, materials and certification
necessary to prepare basic, advanced and/or intermediate
income tax returns for electronic filing.
Project Garrison’s NW Baltimore Technology Centers needs
FIVE (5) to
EIGHT (8)
volunteers to work at centers
located at 3717 Springdale Ave. (21216) and 3939 Reisterstown Rd., Room 108
(21215).
VITA Volunteer Training Classes will be held in
January 2009 on Saturday mornings.
Volunteers will be notified of
the exact training dates, time and convenient location.
